Review - The Bank Manchester & £50 Gift Voucher Giveaway

After living in Manchester for exactly 4 years now I'm always surprised when I find a new gem that I've never tried or even never heard of before. Now Manchester's a pretty big place and I'm not suggesting that I've been everywhere but you'd expect that you've at least heard of these amazing places right? Nicholson Pubs recently got in touch to ask if I fancied heading to one of their pubs in Manchester last weekend and after doing a little bit of research about where this place is and a cheeky little flick through the menu I jumped at the opp. It turns out there's 3 Nicholson's Pubs in Manchester, Sawyers Arms on Deansgate that I've passed soooo many times it's unreal, The Old Wellington next to Manchester Cathedral and The Bank next to the Manchester Art Gallery. I was sent on my merry way with husband in tow to try out The Bank one of their speciality fish house Pubs. Again this is a building I've walked by a hundred times and never even realised it was a pub. The building itself is a beautiful stone building with grand pillars outside which was originally built in 1803 as the Portico Library which you can still go and visit upstairs. Inside is so open and grand with the highest ceilings, large pillars, a beautifully polished bar and stunning chandeliers.

As Nicholson's Pubs are gin and ale bars it was only right for us to sample both of those whilst we browsed the menus pretending that I hadn't already made up my mind on line earlier that week (anyone else do this?). Liam opted for the famous Nicholson's Pale Ale which was incredibly light and smooth, whilst I picked the Little Bird Gin with a slimline tonic. The selection of Gins and mixers is incredible, second only to Atlas Gin Bar in Manchester who have a ridiculous amount of Gins. We also both tried a Warner Edwards Rhubarb Gin with Fever Tree Ginger ale, Liam sampled a Monkey 47 Gin with tonic and I had finished with a Tarquins Cornish Gin with a slimline tonic. All of the gins came with a recommended mixer and amazing garnishes too, my last one being with strawberries was probably my favourite of the 3 I tried.

We decided to go for the Nicholson's Sharer to start so that we could try a bit of everything, and let me tell you, it was a bloody good decision! If you're heading into town for lunch I'd definitely recommend grabbing one of these between two of you because there's so much food and it's all as good as each other. I'm talking the meatiest homemade scotch egg, huge chilli chicken skewers, the tastiest ale glazed Gloucester old spot sausages, delicious Davidstow rarebit fondue (that was the bit that grabbed my attention on the menu), golden beetroot piccalilli, artisan sourdough bread, crisps and really meaty stone in olives. Did we eat it all? You're damn right! The clear winners had to be the rarebit fondue which was all kinds of naughty and the ale glazed sausages. For mains I opted for the Lemon Sole Fish & Chips as I'm a massive fish & chips fan but it's something I try not to have very often because it goes straight to the hips! Liam went for the Softshell Crab with salad (he always picks the healthier option...). Both dishes were incredible and you could tell the fish were super fresh, the only downside was that the salad was a little too oily for Liam's taste but that's easily forgiven!

Overall I'd definitely go back to The Bank and will certainly be taking our group of friends in for the gin selection! I'll also be trying out Sawyers Arms too as they're a specialty sausage establishment and if the sausages here are anything to go off I'd be in for a right treat!

So onto the best bit, the kind people of Nicholson's and The Bank have given me a £50 gift voucher food & drink spend to giveaway on my blog. You must be over 18 to enter and be able to get to The Bank near picadilly gardens, it's not transferable for anywhere else. I'll be running the competition for a week below and there's tonnes of ways to enter so good luck everyone! The winner will be announced on the 2nd of June so you can make the most of it at the weekend if you'd like.
