The Swan Inn - Newby Bridge14:27
We pretty much stumbled upon The Swan Inn on a recent trip to the lakes, and it has to be one of the best little finds we've ever come across. We'd driven through Newby Bridge which looked like a lovely little village so Liam suggested heading back there for lunch and picked out The Swan Inn after having a quick look online at where to eat. Major husband points for Liam as this place is incredible, even on the super rainy day that we visited on! There's a huge pub garden to the rear and super cute Parisian style chairs & tables on the front next to the river which leads all the way up to Windermere. Inside the interior is super Instagram worthy, with the most precious patterned pink wallpapers and dream fabric backed chairs.
The menu had plenty of options meaning there was something for everyone from sandwiches and deli boards to salads and scampi. As we were only stopping for lunch we opted for the rare roast beef sandwich with rocket, pesto and parmesan, with a side of big chips to share. At just over £20 for 2 sandwiches it certainly isn't the cheapest place for lunch but at the same time it's not too different to the price we'd pay for lunch in Manchester. When the sandwiches arrived there was a lovely surprise of veg crisps on the board which weren't mentioned on the menu, we're both huge fans of a veggie crisp so not a single one went to waste! The beef could of been rarer for our personal preference but regardless we'd both say it was one of the best sandwiches we've had in a long time. The perfect combination of freshly made pesto, loaded with a healthy sized portion of soft succulent beef and a more than generous helping of parmesan.
We'll be taking a trip back up to the Swan Inn one sunny weekend to try out their Afternoon Tea which I imagine is pretty tasty seeing as though these guys know how to make a mean sandwich! Definitely recommend popping in to give these guys a go if you're ever near the area - or if not, then maybe plan a little weekend away there because the rooms on their instagram look sooooo dreamy although they do come with a pretty hefty price tag!
Ps. if you're looking for somewhere a bit more budget friendly but still close enough check out my recent review of The Castle Inn in Hornby.
