The Royal Hotel - Kirkby Lonsdale

Since being a little girl and spending many weekends away here with my mum and dad, Kirkby Lonsdale has always been one of my favourite places to visit. It's such a quaint little village with so many lovely shops selling old fashioned sweets, the cutest homewares and there's even a little coffee roaster too! On a recent weekend away we decided to stop in Kirkby Lonsdale for a spot of lunch, and as we were wandering around deciding on where to eat we chanced upon the Royal Hotel after spotting an older couple enjoying a deli board in one of the window tables.

The Royal Hotel is a beautifully restored Georgian townhouse set just off the main square in the centre of Kirkby Lonsdale. This place already looks big from the outside but it's absolutely huge when you step inside the door with so many nooks & crannies leading to more hidden away drinking areas. It's almost like they had 3 separate bars in the same location with a twee little lounge filled with big comfy sofas and a big fireplace, a super modern area that wouldn't look out of place as a cocktail bar in the middle of Manchester and a more traditional premium pub area filled with big armchairs and tables.

As we're both massive ploughman's fans it was only ever going to be the ploughman's sharing board for us (which you can get an individual portion of instead) but the menu is pretty extensive offering all the best gastropub dishes from soup & sandwich combos, to salads, burgers and of course the good old fish and chips! Personally I think the prices are very reasonable with our ploughman's only costing £15 for 2 people or £8 if you prefer an individual portion. On the board you get individual pork pies, honey baked ham, blacksticks blue, Lancashire cheese, warm breads, salad and the best pickles & chutnies. There was more than enough for a lunch portion but I reckon it would be filling enough for an evening dinner too. Plus if you go between 5-7 they do an offer for any sharing platter and a bottle of prosecco for £30 which is the steal of the century for such a nice pub with amazing food!

If you're ever in the area definitely give this place a go.
