I mentioned a couple of weeks ago that myself & Liam were luckily invited for a little weekend away at the Ox Pasture Hall Hotel, although the hotel was very enjoyable (you can read my review here) for us, it's always about the food! That said, we definitely we're not disappointed, the restaurant has been awarded 2 AA rosettes and it was easy to see why.
Once we'd arrived and snooped around our room, we cozied up in the bar next to the nice log burning fire and awaited our afternoon tea for two. A huge platter of freshly baked scones (which were still warm!), finger sandwiches & delicious mini cakes came our way. Although we do love our food, neither of us have actually been for afternoon tea before but it was a really nice experience and definitely something we'll be doing again soon. The scones really did steal the show, topped with generous amounts of clotted cream & jam which I managed to spill down my jeans - very classy! But all the same, incredible!
Later in the evening we were seated in the Courtyard Restaurant for an incredible 3 course dinner, for starters I opted for the goats cheese tart which came with caramelised red onion & balsamic vinegar dressing, which was the most indulgent little plate ever, I really couldn't fault it although I was a little jealous of Liam's fancy plate of ham hock with hens egg & pickled veg because it looked incredible. For mains I chose the beef dish which was made up of a nice chunky sirloin, pink of course, and a hefty chunk of rich brisket, served with creamed mash potato & a mushroom duxelle (which was probably the best thing I've ever eaten). The whole dish was really well presented & super tasty although there was probably a little too much brisket for me as it was so rich. For desert we opted to share a cheeseboard because we were both pretty full but you can't say no to cheese - ammiright?
The only thing for me that didn't live up to expectations was the breakfast, don't get me wrong it was definitely scrumptious but it wasn't anything out of the ordinary like the food had been the previous night. I'd still happily pay & eat again though.
Are you more of a room or restaurant girl? Are the photos making you hungry, or is that just me?
