Monday Manicure #8 - Essie Clambake

11:30

I'd love to say this is my favourite polish ever, I'm so in love with the colour, it's a reddy orange, and looks so perfect, and much easier to wear than a normal red polish. However I'm just not happy with the formula, even after three coats is just won't go opaque, and I really dislike sheer polishes. I had quite a dark polish on before I applied this, so the bits that wouldn't remove could be seen through - not nice at all!

I hear so many people rave about Essie, but so far I've tried two and haven't been too overwhelmed by them, and so far I'd much prefer to stick with Models Own. What are your thoughts on Essie? Do you like this polish?

  2. I've had the same issue with Essie, I really like their colours, but I'm not too crazy about the formulas, it either takes loads of coats to become opaque, or it dries streaky :/

  3. I love Essie colours, love them, but the finish is just awful! Particularly red based colours. I've been wearing Watermelon for about a month now on and off and it takes at least three coats and chips after a day. Such a shame because they do make some beautiful coloured polishes.

  4. I do love this colour but I think if it's sheer the effect just isn't the same! I personally stick to Models Own most of the time because I never get bad results from them.

  5. Love this colour but I do agree about the formula, I find Essie Polishes to be quite sheer. I actually love Topshop's nail polishes - only £5 too!

  14. Ah Danielle your comment was the sweetest thing ever! Thanks so much! You're too lovely.

I feel exactly the same about Essie nail varnishes! I've only tried one which was Bikini So Teeny and I adore the colour but the formula was so rubbish. To be fair though, I used it again and it lasted about 6 days with no chips and was really opaque and dried quickly. I think it only works when it wants to! I do love this colour you've got though, lovely for Autumn xo

  15. This is a gorgeous colour, I don't like red on myself though. I've found that Essie really doesn't last long and I'm really disappointed.

  18. I've seen these in Boots recently after seeing them all over the blogging world, but I just DO NOT GET why people pay the Essie prices for these. Not at all... there's nothing any different or special about them!

Unfortunately I think so many people can be swayed by a big "brand name" that they think it'll naturally be worth the extra cash - not always so. I'm not tempted to try them at all!

  19. I'm definitely a Models Own fan so I tend to stick with them and haven't tried Essie yet - the formula does look rubbish though! Having said that Models Own can be on the thin side, worth it though :-)
